Baladi platform wins Excellence Award at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2023

The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, represented by the Baladi platform, won an award Excellence at the World Summit on the Information Society 2023 (WSIS) , which is organized annually under the umbrella of the United Nations and the International Telecommunication Union, at a ceremony held in Geneva.

The Baladi platform's participation came within the framework of its strategic endeavor to achieve digital transformation and activate community participation. The platform received the award for its service provided to all members of society to contribute to reporting manifestations of visual pollution in various cities and regions of the Kingdom, using artificial intelligence technologies. Through the "Picture and Send" service, achieving a satisfaction rate of nearly 86%.

The selection of the Baladi platform from among many projects nominated for the award came with the support of the Communications, Space and Technology Authority and the Digital Government Authority, after the platform qualified for the final stage and passed the public voting stage, to be selected by the team of experts concerned with evaluation.

For his part, the Deputy Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing for Digital Transformation and Smart Cities, Engineer Musaed bin Abdullah Al-Otaibi, said: “We are proud of this global achievement, which once again indicates the excellence of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through its government services in the field of communications and information technology and its superiority, which consolidates the Kingdom’s leading position in this field.”

Al-Otaibi pointed out that this global achievement highlights the excellence that the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing seeks to develop ways of providing its services with innovative work models that enhance the status of city residents and provide various solutions that contribute to raising the quality of life in them, by raising the efficiency and speed of operational processes in the municipal sector and comprehensive access to all regions of the Kingdom by linking with all municipalities, and contributing to achieving a healthy life and enhancing the well-being of members of society through the digital municipal services system, activating community participation, meeting the community’s need for digital services, monitoring manifestations of visual pollution through the (picture and send) service, and employing artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in the service of society.

It is worth mentioning that the Baladi platform offers more than 200 diverse digital municipal services that contribute to facilitating the needs of the sector at the level of the Kingdom for more than 3.5 million users through digital integration with more than 25 government agencies, in order to achieve the concept of the smart municipality to raise the quality of life in the cities of the Kingdom, and the platform is in line with the work line ( c1 ) Issued by the World Summit on the Information Society on the role of governments and all stakeholders in promoting information and communication technologies for development.

It is worth noting that the World Summit on the Information Society Forum is one of the world’s largest annual gatherings of the information and communication technology community for development.
