Riyadh will host, from September 24, 2022, for 5 days, the “Distinguished Cities Projects in the Era of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques 2022” exhibition and its accompanying forum, under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud - may God protect him - which is organized by the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, with the participation of many governmental and private entities .

The exhibition and forum aim to highlight the Ministry’s efforts in the municipal and housing sectors, the great progress the Kingdom has achieved in various fields, and the Ministry’s role in urban planning and development and its leadership in this field .

The Ministry adopted a strategy based on several key pillars aimed at achieving sustainable and balanced urban development, to raise the level of quality of life and enhance the human dimension in all cities and regions of the Kingdom. The strategy includes plans to develop urban planning systems and standards, apply smart city concepts in accordance with the best global practices in this field, control and regulate urban development, achieve effective institutional performance, enhance community participation and sustainable partnerships with the private sector, and make optimal use of municipal resources .

As a step to enhance data analysis and reading the urban landscape, the National Urban Observatory and a number of local centers in the regional secretariats were launched, concerned with developing future plans that lead to sustainable and balanced urban development, and providing government agencies and stakeholders with the outputs of urban indicator analysis to benefit from them in developing urban development policies and making appropriate decisions, and overcoming any obstacle in order to achieve the highest levels of quality of life for citizens and residents .

It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing has adopted a training program that focuses on raising urban efficiency and productivity in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP ) , with the participation of a select group of employees from the Ministry, the Secretariats, the Regional Development Authorities and the Royal Commissions in the Kingdom, with the aim of raising the skills of workers in the field of urban and regional planning and raising the quality of public and private sector projects, in a way that contributes to achieving the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, as a number of experts in urban planning, economics and city management reviewed the best leading global experiences in this field .
