Ministry of Municipalities and Housing: More than 60 tunnels prepared and more than 330,000 lighting units operated in Makkah and the holy sites for Hajj 1447 AH

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has intensified its field work to raise the readiness of the bridges, tunnels and lighting system in Makkah and the Holy Sites as part of its preparations for the Hajj season of 1447 AH, in order to enhance safety levels and support the smooth flow of traffic in vital locations and pilgrim transportation routes.
The ministry explained that the work included upgrading 92 intersections within the bridge network, preparing 62 tunnels for pedestrians and vehicles, in addition to implementing ground and directional painting works that exceeded 110,000 linear meters, which contributes to improving the clarity of the paths and raising the level of traffic safety.
The ministry also enhanced the lighting network by operating more than 330,000 lighting units and 150,000 lighting poles in Makkah and the holy sites, creating a safer environment in areas of heavy traffic and along the main roads and axes leading to the holy sites, stressing the continuation of field follow-up and maintenance work around the clock to ensure the sustainability of the efficiency of the infrastructure and raise operational readiness during the Hajj season.
The Ministry had announced, as part of its operational plans for the Hajj season of 1447 AH, the implementation of more than 11 million linear meters of roads, and the treatment and development of approximately 74 million square meters of road surfaces, in addition to raising the readiness of 123 bridges and 44 tunnels for pedestrians and vehicles, which enhances the efficiency of movement and supports the smooth flow of transportation in Makkah and the Holy Sites.
The Ministry, represented by the regional secretariats, also prepared more than 4,500 male and female volunteers within the municipal volunteering system to participate in serving the guests of God in vital locations, ports and roads leading to the holy sites, in support of operational and service efforts during the season.
