Ministry of Municipalities and Housing: More than 250,000 tons of waste were removed in Mecca and 16,000 tons in the holy sites during the Hajj season.

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, represented by the Holy Capital Municipality, announced the continuation of cleaning and environmental sanitation work during the Hajj season of 1447 AH through an integrated operational system that worked around the clock to serve the guests of God in Makkah and the holy sites.

The ministry explained that the total amount of waste collected in Makkah exceeded 250,000 tons since the 15th of Dhu al-Qi'dah, with a daily average exceeding 6,000 tons, while the amount of waste and refuse collected in the holy sites exceeded 16,000 tons during the Hajj season, with a daily average exceeding 200 tons.

She explained that the field work was carried out with the participation of more than 22,000 human resources and 3,000 pieces of equipment and machinery, supported by more than 88,000 cleaning units, including containers, pressure and compaction units and underground storage facilities, which contributed to maintaining a healthy environment and raising the efficiency of cleaning and environmental sanitation work in high-density locations.

The ministry added that the field teams continued the rapid rehabilitation work of the holy sites after the movement of pilgrims between the sites, by removing waste, washing the sites and preparing the corridors and squares, within continuous operational plans to ensure the continuity of municipal services and preparing the sites to receive pilgrims during their various stages of movement.

The ministry confirmed that the cleaning and environmental sanitation work was carried out according to integrated operational plans supported by field monitoring rooms working around the clock, reflecting the extent of the efforts made to serve the pilgrims and enable them to perform their rituals with ease and peace of mind.
