The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing concluded today its participation, as part of a joint Saudi delegation from several government agencies, in the activities of the eleventh World Urban Forum ( WUF11 ), which was organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme ( UN-Habitat ) in the Republic of Poland during the period from June 26-30, under the slogan “Transforming our cities for a better urban future.”

The Ministry actively participated in the forum’s activities through dialogue sessions presented by His Excellency the Secretary of the Eastern Province, Engineer Fahd Al-Jubair, the Secretary of the Baha Region, Dr. Ali Al-Sawat, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing for Urban Planning, Dr. Adel Al-Zahrani, with the participation of experts and specialists representing the municipalities and housing system, where the Ministry’s initiatives and programs were reviewed and the Ministry’s experience in the field of investment management in construction and urban development planning was highlighted.

The participation aimed to highlight the Kingdom’s efforts in supporting international programs and initiatives that are concerned with the environment and sustainable urban cities, and to highlight the role of the Quality of Life Program – one of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 programs – in responding to the aspirations of residents of Saudi cities in the field of improving cities, achieving urban sustainability, and preserving the cultural and architectural identity in the development of cities. The participation also contributed to reviewing the state’s efforts to raise the level of quality of life for citizens and residents through launching initiatives and programs that contribute to improving the urban landscape and humanizing cities, and to learning about the best global practices and experiences in city development, in addition to strengthening relations and exchanging knowledge with representatives of national, regional and local governments, academics, business people, community leaders and urban planners from various countries of the world.

The Ministry’s participation in the forum, which is the world’s largest gathering to discuss urban issues and the impact of rapid urbanization and its repercussions on social, economic and environmental policies in societies and cities, came as part of a Saudi delegation that included several government agencies to highlight the Kingdom’s efforts in urban affairs through the joint pavilion of Saudi agencies in the exhibition accompanying the forum. The participating delegation was headed by His Excellency the Secretary of the Eastern Province, Engineer Fahd Al-Jubair, while the participation of the Saudi delegation was supervised by the General Supervisor of Institutional Partnerships and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Engineer Abdullah bin Saeed.
