The Ministry of Municipality and Housing holds the first meeting on behavioral interventions in the municipal and housing sectors.

The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing held on Tuesday the first meeting on behavioral interventions in the municipal and housing sectors, under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Hogail, and in the presence of his deputy, His Excellency Engineer Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Budair, and a number of leaders of the Ministry, secretariats and municipalities.

 

The meeting aims to harness and utilize behavioral science applications in designing solutions and enablers with a scientific methodology based on understanding the factors affecting decision-making among individuals and organizations, and to exchange local and global experiences and expertise in the field of behavioral sciences. It also aims to raise awareness and develop behavioral insights.

 

Al-Haqil explained during his speech at the meeting that harnessing behavioral sciences in the municipal and housing sectors aims to improve the level of services provided to the beneficiary and raise the quality of life of the citizen and resident. His Excellency stressed that the Ministry believes in the importance of developing effective tools to make policies based on facts designed through experiences that take into account the behavior of individuals and organizations, and harnessing all scientific tools to understand the orientations of the target groups in the services provided in order to enhance compliance and change behavior in a way that contributes to the application of all systems and regulations, which is reflected in the quality of services, their sustainability, development and improvement and increase the level of satisfaction with them.

 

His Excellency explained that among the objectives of using behavioral sciences is to reduce the manifestations of visual distortion and address all the challenges facing the Ministry related to behavioral aspects, noting that the Ministry, with the support of the wise leadership and through its various sectors, programs and initiatives, contributes to supporting and achieving more than 30% of the goals of Vision 2030. Its activities are linked to more than 60% of the total economic activities in the Kingdom. The Ministry also provides its services in the municipal and housing sectors, representing 40% of Saudi cities, directly through 17 secretariats and 286 municipalities across the Kingdom.

 

It is worth mentioning that the meeting witnessed the launch by His Excellency the Minister of the Behavioral Interventions Unit in the Ministry, which is concerned with solving challenges related to the behavior of individuals and organizations to improve the quality of life of citizens and residents. It is also concerned with developing behavioral visions for stakeholders, employees and individuals, raising community awareness about municipal violations, achieving the targeted impact and improving the quality of life. The unit also works on studying the behavior of community members and predicting it in order to develop standard policies that meet the requirements of society more effectively and realistically through behavioral interventions.

 

The meeting also witnessed the presentation of several presentations and working sessions by local and international experts. Several local and global experiences were reviewed by global experts and practitioners of behavioral sciences. In addition, the application of behavioral interventions from different entities within the ministry, such as the Housing Support Agency and some secretariats, was presented. Saudi experiences in various ministries, such as the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, were also presented to identify the impact of behavioral applications in different sectors. In addition, a workshop was held at the end of the meeting for ministry employees to enable them to use the concepts of behavioral science on the various challenges they face.
