Studying and developing the Islamic battles sites and other historical sites in pilgrim cities

This initiative seeks to study and develop the areas surrounding the Islamic battles sites and other historical sites in pilgrim cities (Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah, Taif and Jamoum), such as Uhud, Al-Khandaq, Badr and Hira Cave. In addition to facilitating traffic and waiting, and providing paved yards, green areas, seating areas, and investment-related events such as exhibitions and kiosks, the initiative includes landscaping and establishing service centers, stores and tourist attractions for pilgrims, Umrah performers and visitors.

Studying and applying universal accessibility standards for pedestrians in Madinah

The goal of this initiative is to prepare sidewalks, pedestrian routes and service facilities surrounding the central area, as well as providing facilities for PWDs for smooth movement to and from the central area.

          SREI

The Saudi Real Estate Institute (SREI) is dedicated to disseminating international best practices in the real estate sector. Since real estate is the largest economic non-oil sector in the Kingdom, SREI, the academic channel of the Real Estate General Authority (REGA), is focused on training professionals involved in the Saudi real estate market by awarding them with the necessary credentials to compete efficiently in the real estate industry. In line with Vision 2030, MOMRAH launched SREI August 2, 2017 to serve as the first educational institute specialized in providing real estate sciences in Saudi Arabia in cooperation with local and international partners and consulting firms.

Developing smart ecosystem in Makkah and holy sites

The initiative is an integrated project aimed at establishing a network of sensors that covers all of the pilgrim cities (Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah, Taif and Jamoum) and vital areas in each city, e.g. parks, markets and others. These sensors measure all environmental changes, such as temperature, humidity, CO2 emissions from vehicle exhausts, other hazardous gases and radioactive pollution, intensity of UV radiation, as well as water pollution, including industrial and biological pollution, and the level of sewage and water source contamination. Other environmental elements are also measured, such as level of excessive noise and vibrations at pedestrian and vehicle crossing points. In addition, the initiative also incorporates sensors for rainwater outflow and degree of water streams blockage. In order to compare the sensor data with reference measurements automatically, all of these measurements are made in real time through a dynamic environmental map and a system of applications linked to the command and control center in each city. This system then takes immediate action to address the situation by, for example, notifying the concerned authorities, providing them with all reference measurements, and cooperating with them on-site, by sending immediate alerts via the city screens and early warning systems, and by sending alerts to smart devices to take precautions for patients and those who are more likely to be at risk as a result of exposure, such as those who have asthma and allergies. All of these data, procedures and response processes are assessed and KPIs extracted to support the future environmental planning for the city. There are two key processes that make up the Initiative: (1) Study & Design (2) Implementation & Operation

Studying, developing, and improving visual scene of pilgrim cities

This initiative seeks to enhance the visual scene pertaining to pilgrims' journey from the time they enter land, sea, and air ports until they arrive at their final destination (the Two Holy Mosques). To accomplish this, urban design elements are developed and improved at the entrances of the pilgrim cities (Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah, Taif, and Jamoum) and visual distortion is mitigated in these cities, with a focus on showcasing the local and Islamic identities.

Studying and developing slums adjacent to the central area in Makkah and Madinah

The initiative seeks to increase the capacity of hotels and the number of pilgrims that can be accommodated by studying and developing a wide range of public facilities, sites, and open spaces—including roads, streets, and squares—integrating this into a system and developing specialized engineering solutions.

Establishing a Center of Excellence for Urban Design

The goal of the initiative is to create and maintain a center that attracts expertise from around the world in the fields of urban design and related fields like architecture, urban design, landscaping, environmental architecture, and urban planning in order to carry out research and establish frameworks for enhancing the quality of the urban environment in Saudi cities both now and in the future as per the best international practices.
