Ministry of Municipalities and Housing

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing is the government agency responsible for regulating and developing the municipal and housing sectors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and leading sustainable urban development in a way that contributes to improving the quality of life, enhancing the attractiveness of cities, raising the efficiency of municipal and housing services, and achieving the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

History of the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing

The ministry was established in 1395 AH (1975 CE) under the name Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, and assumed responsibility for overseeing municipal affairs and urban development in the Kingdom. In 1442 AH, the housing sector was incorporated into the ministry to enhance integration between urban and housing development. In 1446 AH, a royal decree was issued changing its name to the “Ministry of Municipalities and Housing,” reflecting its integrated role in leading urban and housing development and achieving national development goals.
