His Excellency the Minister of Municipal Rural Affairs and Housing, Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Hogail, participated in the 26th Meeting of the Committee of their Excellencies Ministers Concerned with Municipal Affairs in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, which was held virtually under the chairmanship of the Sultanate of Oman.
Al-Hogail emphasized the complementary role between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in serving the municipal sector, which positively reflects on their people and meets their diverse development aspirations. He also welcomed the Kingdom's hosting of the Municipal Work Conference, which is scheduled to be held next year in 2024, inviting countries to participate in showcasing successful experiences in the municipal sector, discussing the major challenges and solutions, and exploring ways to enhance growth, development, and progress.
The 26th Meeting of the Committee of their Excellencies Ministers Concerned with Municipal Affairs in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) comes within the framework of joint efforts among the council countries. The Meeting witnessed several important recommendations, including the launch of the electronic version of the GCC Building Code as a guiding reference and the adoption of the Joint GCC Municipal Action Plan for the next seven years. This aims to enhance cooperation in the municipal sector and drive it towards achieving the well-being and quality of life of GCC citizens.
The meeting also discussed a number of common topics, including the implementation of resolutions issued by the Supreme Council regarding the GCC joint municipal action strategy, the urban environment, the future directions of strategic urban planning in GCC Countries, the development of municipal legislation and control mechanisms, and the conditions and mechanisms for classifying contractors. Additionally, it covered the GCC Municipal Award and the exchange of experiences, information and expertise.
The Ministers of Municipal Affairs in the GCC Countries recommended taking the necessary steps to implement the guiding references adopted by the ministries and relevant institutions in municipal affairs in the GCC Countries. They also encouraged the GCC Countries to participate in regional and international forums to highlight joint GCC municipal work for which appropriate decisions were taken. Moreover, they emphasized the continuation of workshops and events in the municipal field.
