The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing announced the achievements of municipal authorities during the first half of 2026 in the development of public spaces. The work included more than 667 kilometers of pedestrian walkways and sidewalks, 108 municipal plazas with a total area of approximately 1.28 million square meters, in addition to 44 municipal parks covering more than 803,000 square meters, and 3,070 linear meters of waterfronts. These projects were carried out as part of efforts to develop cities and governorates across various regions of the Kingdom.

The nature of the work carried out by the municipal authorities varied according to the characteristics and needs of each city. The Riyadh Region Municipality recorded the longest network of pedestrian walkways and sidewalks, at approximately 517 kilometers, in addition to 101 municipal plazas. The Madinah Region Municipality recorded the largest park area, totaling 417.6 thousand square meters. In terms of waterfronts, the Eastern Region Municipality ranked first with 1,920 linear meters, followed by the Tabuk Region Municipality with 1,150 linear meters.

The Ministry explained that these projects are part of its approach to developing cities that are more accessible and easier to live in and navigate, by expanding pedestrian networks, facilitating access to parks, plazas, and facilities, and increasing the availability of public spaces within neighborhoods. This enhances residents’ everyday experience and directly connects municipal services with their needs.

The Ministry noted that developing pedestrian walkways, parks, plazas, and waterfronts contributes to enhancing the urban landscape and strengthening the identity of cities. It also supports the role of public spaces as an active part of residents’ daily lives, as part of the Ministry’s approach toward “A Lifestyle from Your Home to Your City.”

The Ministry reaffirmed its continued efforts, in coordination with municipalities and municipal authorities, to develop public spaces and improve the efficiency of municipal facilities and areas. These efforts aim to enhance ease of movement and the vitality of neighborhoods, expand residents’ options for accessing public spaces and services, and support the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in developing sustainable and attractive cities.
