The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing launched the third cycle of the Municipal Performance Excellence Award for 2026, with the aim of promoting institutional excellence in the municipal sector, stimulating competitiveness among municipalities, and improving the quality of municipal services, through adopting innovative practices and developing performance efficiency, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
The award includes three main categories: (the Gold Award, the Silver Award, and the Bronze Award), in addition to a number of qualitative tracks that include operational efficiency, community participation, and municipal media, in order to highlight outstanding initiatives and experiences that contribute to raising the efficiency of municipal work and improving the level of services provided to beneficiaries.
The award targets the secretariats of regions and governorates throughout the Kingdom, contributing to the promotion of positive competition and the exchange of experiences and best practices among municipal authorities. The results of the third cycle will be announced and the winning entities will be honored during January 2027.
The 2025 edition of the award honored the winning municipalities in recognition of their institutional excellence and efforts in developing municipal services. The Hail Region Municipality achieved first place, followed by the Qassim Region Municipality in second place, and then the Eastern Region Municipality in third place. Several municipalities stood out in qualitative tracks, including addressing visual pollution, community participation, supporting street vendors (mobile merchants), Bahja projects, and crisis and emergency management.
The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing affirmed that the award represents an extension of its efforts to consolidate the culture of institutional excellence in the municipal sector, and to motivate municipalities to develop their performance, adopt innovative solutions, and exchange best practices, in order to contribute to building more prosperous and sustainable cities, and to enhance the quality of life in various regions of the Kingdom.
