The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing issued more than 34,000 building permits in various regions of the Kingdom during the period from January to the end of June 2026, as part of its efforts to regulate construction work, facilitate procedures, and keep pace with the urban development taking place in cities and governorates .
The ministry explained that residential licenses constituted the largest percentage of the total licenses issued, with a number exceeding 28,000 licenses, while the number of commercial licenses reached more than 5,000 licenses, in addition to more than a thousand licenses for government buildings .
She explained that the development of the municipal licensing system and the expansion of digital solutions available through the "Baladi" platform have contributed to simplifying the procedures for issuing licenses, speeding up the processing of applications, improving the beneficiary's journey, and increasing the efficiency of coordination between relevant authorities .
The ministry confirmed that the volume of licenses issued reflects the diversity of urban projects across the residential, commercial and governmental sectors, and keeps pace with the developmental expansion in various regions of the Kingdom, in addition to its role in supporting investment and developing the urban environment .
She indicated that work will continue with the secretariats and municipalities to improve licensing procedures, develop related digital solutions, and enhance performance efficiency, in order to support the quality of municipal services, improve the urban landscape, and contribute to achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 .
This comes as an extension of the Ministry’s efforts to develop the municipal licensing system, as it recently announced the issuance and renewal of more than 274,000 commercial licenses during the first half of 2026, including the issuance of more than 97,000 new commercial licenses, the renewal of more than 177,000 licenses, in addition to the implementation of more than 91,000 amendments to commercial licenses, more than 43,000 operations to add commercial activities, and about 39,000 operations to transfer ownership of licenses, within the framework of enhancing the investment environment and expanding the scope of digital services provided through the “Baladi” platform.
