The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing continues to develop the food safety system in various regions of the Kingdom, through updating health requirements, raising the efficiency of field monitoring, and employing technical solutions in monitoring food establishments and protecting consumer health.
The ministry explained that the work includes updating the technical and health requirements for food establishments, developing health certificates for workers and improving the efficiency of issuing them electronically, in addition to qualifying the workforce in the sector and improving practices related to food safety.
On the regulatory side, the municipalities and secretariats conduct field visits to restaurants, kitchens and food outlets to verify compliance with health requirements, monitor food preparation, storage and handling methods, detect violations and take regulatory measures against non-compliant establishments.
The ministry adopted portable cameras as a key tool within the smart monitoring system, where they are used to document tours with audio and video and link them directly to the "Compliant" application, which raises the level of transparency and preserves the rights of monitors and facility owners during the implementation of monitoring work.
Documenting field visits helps to quickly address complaints and observations, improve the performance of inspectors, and raise the quality of monitoring procedures, in addition to providing a documented record that supports follow-up and verification of compliance with approved regulations and procedures.
These efforts are complemented by the existing coordination between the secretariats, municipalities and entities related to health and food safety, in addition to comprehensive monitoring and follow-up of compliance levels in food establishments in various regions of the Kingdom.
The ministry called on members of the community to report observations and violations in food establishments via the unified number (940) or the “Baladi” platform, stressing the importance of community participation in supporting monitoring work, speeding up the processing of reports, and maintaining food safety.
It is worth noting that the percentage of regulatory coverage of food establishments reached 97 percent during the first half of 2026, within the framework of the tours carried out by the secretariats and municipalities to monitor compliance with health requirements and reduce violations .
