The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has emphasized that the warehouse and storage facility requirements aim to develop and improve the business environment, support those wishing to invest in the sector, enhance compliance to address visual distortion, and allocate appropriate locations that facilitate the distribution and delivery of goods. The Ministry stressed the importance of adhering to these requirements to minimize risks, eliminate random practices, and reduce urban visual pollution. It also urged the public to immediately report any violations related to unauthorized storage via the unified call center (940) or through “Capture and Report” feature in “Balady” app.

In a statement issued today, the Ministry explained that these requirements are part of its ongoing efforts to improve quality of life, enhance the urban landscape, maintain public safety, and limit random practices that violate Laws and requirements and put both residents and infrastructure in danger.

It pointed out that using facilities within residential neighborhoods or on non-commercial streets for storage without obtaining a license, conducting storage activities that are not aligned with the original commercial license, or operating warehouses in unauthorized areas within urban boundaries is considered a violation under the municipal penalties schedule. The Ministry noted that unauthorized storage is one of the most prominent risk factors in neighborhoods due to its threat to public safety, distortion of the urban landscape, and encroachment on designated land uses.

The Ministry added that reporting unauthorized storage within urban boundaries helps reduce the risk of fires, damage to various goods and materials, and stops random practices and activities within neighborhoods. It also promotes adherence to safety procedures and risk prevention, ensuring a safe, licensed, and compliant environment within storage facilities. Furthermore, it contributes to the urban development of cities and achieving the highest standards of organization and compliance.

It is worth noting that the Ministry has enabled the public to report violations through the unified number 940 and “Balady” app by selecting “Report” option under the “Capture and Report” service and choosing report “Unauthorized Storage” with an accompanying photo.
