A Gulf delegation learns about the Kingdom's experience in smart urban development through NHC's "Al Fursan Destination"

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing received a delegation from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, during a field visit to the "Al Fursan Destination" belonging to NHC. The visit to Riyadh, which won first place in the GCC Housing Action Award for the best sustainable housing project category, was aimed at learning about the Saudi experience in the fields of smart urban development and sustainable housing.

During the visit, the Gulf delegation was briefed on the most prominent components of the destination and its development phases, including modern urban and technological solutions that enhance the quality of life and support the efficiency of urban planning in accordance with sustainability standards. The project is considered one of the leading national models in integrating modern urban planning, smart infrastructure, and sustainable building technologies, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to raise the quality of life and promote balanced urban development.

The “Al Fursan Destination” spans an area of more than 35 million square meters and includes more than 50,000 residential units that can accommodate about 257,000 people, in addition to allocating 11.4% of the area for commercial and investment activities, which contributes to stimulating the local economy and creating new job opportunities, while maintaining a balance between residential, service and environmental uses.

The destination features an integrated urban design that incorporates green spaces, open walkways, and community service facilities, including schools, health centers, mosques, and public parks, along with the adoption of smart city systems for managing energy, water, and waste, and the use of environmentally friendly materials such as recycled polyethylene systems, to enhance resource efficiency and environmental sustainability.

The delegation also reviewed the destination's operational mechanisms, which are based on employing modern technologies and innovation in urban planning, including the use of spatial analysis and geographic information systems ( GIS). To raise the efficiency of engineering coordination and accelerate the implementation of services, in an urban model that consolidates integration between the public and private sectors, and reflects the Kingdom’s ability to transform development visions into sustainable housing projects with a tangible economic and social impact.

This visit comes within the framework of joint Gulf cooperation and exchange of experiences between the member states of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, which enhances regional integration in the fields of housing and urban development, and embodies the Kingdom’s leading role in developing innovative housing solutions that support sustainability and quality of life in Gulf cities.
