Al-Haqil: We are proud to have reached more than 260,000 male and female volunteers.

Under the generous patronage of the Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, His Royal Highness Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Governor of Makkah Region, His Excellency the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Hogail, inaugurated today, Monday, December 5, 2022, the opening ceremony of the first Municipal Volunteering Forum and its accompanying exhibition, which is organized by the Holy Capital Municipality, at the Hilton Conference Hotel in Makkah, coinciding with International Volunteer Day.

The ceremony was attended by His Excellency the Deputy Governor of the Makkah Region, Dr. Mashabeb Al-Qahtani, His Excellency the Deputy Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Engineer Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Budair, His Excellency the Acting Mayor of the Holy Capital, Mr. Saleh bin Ali Al-Turki, and a number of Their Excellencies, Highnesses, and active participants in the field of volunteering from institutions and individuals, with the participation of government agencies, companies and related institutions.

During his speech on this occasion, Al-Haqil noted that the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing is proud to have reached more than 260,000 male and female volunteers and achieved more than 370 activated accounts for volunteer work, covering all cities of the Kingdom. He also stated that the Ministry aimed to recruit 43,000 male and female volunteers during 2022, and, thanks be to God, this goal was achieved and they were accommodated through 4 tracks. His Excellency also affirmed that the Ministry is continuing to achieve the vision of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to reach one million volunteers in 2030.

His Excellency added that the Ministry's starting points for volunteer work are numerous, most notably the existence of opportunities and needs. The Ministry implements more than 40% of the city's work, which increases the number of volunteer opportunities that can be offered. The Ministry has a need due to the diversity of its work and the large number of its projects, which prompts opening the door for participation in providing support and assistance to it. He also noted the system that the Ministry has worked to create, which preserves the rights of the volunteer and works together to shape awareness towards volunteer work, by opening paths for everyone to become community partners, and through business governance, to be under a safe umbrella and cover that gives them everything that motivates them to give more, by providing a positive volunteer work environment.

The launch ceremony included a visual presentation of the achievements of the Ministry’s volunteer program. His Excellency Al-Haqil also witnessed the signing of a number of agreements in the field of volunteering, and His Excellency honored a number of secretariats and municipalities that had a prominent role and tangible efforts in volunteer work, in addition to honoring many entities supporting volunteer work from the private sector and honoring sponsors and volunteers who contributed to volunteer work.

Al-Haqil launched four volunteer products, including a community participation platform through which employees’ work and successes will be displayed, and contributions will be distinguished, and access to them will be easy and highlighted, which will facilitate the work of volunteers and increase their volunteering opportunities; in addition to the volunteer guide, the “Loyalty One” agreement to provide services to volunteers, and the launch of the unified volunteer vest at the Kingdom level.

It is worth mentioning that the first Municipal Volunteer Forum, which coincides with International Volunteer Day, is the first of its kind in the Kingdom. This forum promotes volunteer work and social services offered by the Holy Capital Municipality within its plans aimed at increasing the percentage of volunteers in Makkah, expanding opportunities for participation, consolidating and strengthening the concepts and practices of sustainable volunteer work, and launching initiatives that elevate volunteer work.
