The Deputy Minister of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing inaugurates the Bahja project in the Eastern Province

His Excellency Ihab bin Ghazi Al Hashani, the Deputy Minister of Municipal Rural Affairs and Housing, inaugurated the Bahjah project in the Eastern Province today. The project aims to convert unused spaces into vibrant urban areas and develop parks and urban interventions in cities and residential areas to improve the quality of life and well-being of people. It also aims to make three Saudi cities among the top 100 livable cities in the world. The inauguration was attended by His Excellency the Mayor of the Eastern Province, Engineer Fahd bin Mohammed Al Jubair, and a number of ministry and municipality officials.

The Mayor of the Eastern Province stated that this project represents an important step towards achieving a sustainable vision for urban development. It is a continuation of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 objectives, which aim to create a vibrant society and a thriving economy for an ambitious nation by enhancing community participation and making cities attractive for residents and visitors. He emphasized that the municipality has transformed several unused spaces into active urban areas that meet the community's needs.

He added that the municipality has worked on improving the infrastructure in the governorates of the Eastern Province in general, which has contributed to enhancing the attractiveness of cities and raising the quality of life and well-being of residents. These efforts reflect a genuine desire to achieve a sustainable vision for our cities and provinces and enhance the Eastern Province's status as a pioneering model in urban development.

Al Jubair pointed out that the municipality has contributed to achieving the targets of the Bahjah project by committing to develop 235 urban interventions, 44 parks, and public squares with cultural, social, and sports identity in 2023. This has helped build a vibrant community within residential neighborhoods. He further stated that the municipality seeks to achieve excellence and innovation in the development of cities and the quality of life for citizens, residents, and visitors. This is reflected in achieving the highest standards of sustainable development and improving the urban environment in all cities and governorates of the Eastern Province.

The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, through the launch of the Bahjah project, aims to unify the efforts of the region's municipalities and improve the quality of life, enhance the satisfaction of city residents, and make cities more livable. The project includes the establishment and renovation of parks and public recreational areas, providing dedicated areas for children, and preparing urban sites to enhance social cohesion and well-being within communities that encourage participation in community sports. This gives individuals a sense of belonging to the people around them.

The project aims to maximize the use of open spaces by transforming them into active areas focused on providing quality services for individuals and investors. It includes the renovation of parks and public recreational areas to create a renewed and sustainable urban environment that promotes health and provides residents with the opportunity to enjoy green spaces and wide areas in all provinces of the Kingdom. It also contributes to enhancing tourism and environmental sustainability.

It is worth mentioning that MOMRAH aims, through the launch of "Bahjah," to complete the construction of 7,000 parks and 1,500 urban interventions across the Kingdom's provinces by 2030. The project was launched in mid-November of last year in Makkah province, with the implementation of 126 parks in Jeddah and over 130 urban interventions in Taif and Makkah during the current year.
