“Baladi+” announced the implementation of a package of digital and spatial updates in Makkah and the Holy Sites in preparation for the Hajj season of 1447 AH, which included updating more than 11,800 landmarks and sites, with the aim of facilitating the movement of the pilgrims and raising the efficiency of crowd management during the season.

The work was carried out in cooperation with the Royal Commission for Makkah City and the Holy Sites, and included auditing and updating the spatial data of vital sites and landmarks within Makkah and the Holy Sites, in order to support improving the access and mobility experience and raising the efficiency of services provided to pilgrims.

“Baladi+” also developed digital mapping services by monitoring and updating shuttle transport routes totaling over 990 kilometers, while providing real-time data on transport schedules to enable pilgrims to reach their destinations easily and efficiently.

The platform launched a three-dimensional interactive experience of the entrances and exits of the Grand Mosque, pedestrian paths, and the Jamarat Bridge, which contributes to supporting ease of movement and improving the access experience within the holy sites before and during the performance of the rituals.

The updates included reviewing and updating the locations of hospitals, health centers, Red Crescent stations and public facilities, in addition to linking the pilgrims’ camps to the data of approved campaigns; to facilitate access to them via the fastest available routes.

Digital maps also provide real-time updates on road conditions and traffic diversions, and link them to control rooms at partner agencies to support rapid response and anticipate congestion, and enhance the efficiency of traffic and crowd management in high-density locations.

On the municipal services side, the platform enabled the issuance of seasonal permits for temporary outlets, Hajj housing requests, and health certificates, in addition to enhancing field monitoring work through the “Mumtali” and “Adasat Baladi” platforms, in partnership with the Holy Capital Municipality, which contributes to raising compliance and improving the quality of services provided during the season .

Baladi CEO Yasser Al-Obaidan said: “We are working to provide accurate and up-to-date spatial data in real time to enable pilgrims to access services and move around with high efficiency during the Hajj season, within an integrated system with partner entities.”

Al-Obaidan added that these efforts come within the objectives of developing smart cities and the digital transformation of municipal services, through the use of spatial data, modern technologies and artificial intelligence, to contribute to raising the quality of the experience of the pilgrims in one of the largest human gatherings in the world.
