Ministry of Municipalities and Housing: Madinah Municipality completes urban development projects on key axes to serve pilgrims

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing announced that the Municipality of Madinah Region has completed urban development and humanization projects in a number of main axes and roads leading to the central area and high-density sites, as part of its efforts to raise the readiness of Madinah during the Hajj season, improve the experience of the pilgrims, and enhance the efficiency of the urban landscape and municipal services.

The works included the development of a number of vital roads, most notably Al-Salam Road, the road of the great companion Khalid bin Al-Walid, and Quba Road, in addition to a number of roads in the central area, through the implementation of development works for sidewalks and public squares, the preparation of pedestrian paths, the enhancement of traffic safety elements, and the improvement of the quality of facilities and services in the surrounding locations.

As part of its humanization projects, the Secretariat implemented more than 135,000 square meters of sidewalks and pedestrian plazas, and more than 47,000 square meters of green spaces, in addition to implementing more than 18,000 meters of blind and bicycle paths, and developing 7 main sites to serve pilgrims and visitors, in addition to improving more than 9.7 kilometers of targeted roads, which contributes to improving movement in high-density locations and raising the efficiency of the urban environment.

The works included the development of the 3,400-meter-long Peace Road, through the implementation of sidewalks, pedestrian walkways, bicycle paths and blind paths, in addition to enhancing green spaces and aesthetic elements. The development works on the Great Companion Khalid bin Al-Walid Road included improving sidewalks and urban facilities and preparing service sites and bus stops.

The humanization projects on Quba Road also included developing elements of the urban landscape, improving pedestrian paths, increasing green spaces, and raising the efficiency of lighting and support services, which enhances the flow of traffic and raises the quality of the urban environment in the vicinity of vital sites.

The Secretariat also worked to enhance the efficiency of lighting in the targeted axes by installing high-efficiency LED lighting and implementing smart control systems, in addition to carrying out landscaping work, addressing visual distortions, and improving directional signs and traffic paints, which contributes to raising the level of safety and improving the urban landscape.

These projects are part of the efforts of the municipalities and housing system to enhance operational readiness during the Hajj season, improve the quality of life, and raise the efficiency of municipal services provided to the pilgrims and residents of Madinah.
