In support of investors in this field

The Ministry of Municipality and Housing grants gas retailers a 12-month grace period to complete the requirements of the updated regulations.

The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing announced the extension of the corrective deadline for one year for investors who own shops selling liquefied petroleum gas cylinders, to complete the requirements of the regulations for shops selling gas cylinders, after the previous deadline ended on 5/15/1444 AH, with the aim of supporting investors in the field, and improving and organizing the service.

The Ministry explained in a press statement today that it has put in place a corrective plan for a period of 12 months, starting from 5/15/1444 AH and ending on 5/15/1445 AH, divided into 3 stages, which are: (the stage of mandatory requirements after 8 months, the stage of mandatory requirements after 10 months, and the stage of mandatory requirements after 12 months). The Ministry also urged investors who own gas sales outlets to complete all the requirements, as the updated regulations will be implemented after the deadline.

The ministry had previously revealed a number of requirements included in the updated regulations, some of which relate to security and safety and others to commercial matters. The regulations included placing a sign showing the prices of gas cylinders of all types and sizes, and an external sign for the shop according to the requirements for commercial signs, in addition to allowing the sale of cylinders in self-service vending machines, or in cages in the external courtyards within an area designated for this activity in central markets.

The regulations included requirements related to the shop, equipment and operation, through which the reception area and safety requirements for handling cylinders are taken into account, by placing the cylinders vertically with their valves facing upwards, with the locations of empty and filled cylinders being identified, and taking care not to roll or pull the cylinder, while providing a small cart for transporting the cylinders.

The regulations require gas retailers to ensure that gas cylinders intended for sale are clean, free of accumulated dirt that is difficult to remove, and that the storage area for filled gas cylinders is shaded with fire-resistant materials.
