Saudi Arabia begins its participation in the World Urban Forum ( WUF11 ) in the Republic of Poland.

Today, the Saudi participation began as part of a joint delegation from several government agencies in the activities of the eleventh World Urban Forum ( WUF11 ), which is organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme “ UN-Habitat ” in Katowice Province, Republic of Poland, during the period from June 26-30, under the slogan “Transforming our cities for a better urban future”.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is represented at the forum by several government agencies to highlight its efforts in urban affairs through the joint pavilion of Saudi entities in the exhibition accompanying the forum. The participating delegation is headed by His Excellency the Secretary of the Eastern Province, Engineer Fahd Al-Jubair, on behalf of His Excellency the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Hogail. The participation of the Saudi delegation is supervised by the General Supervisor of Institutional Partnerships and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Engineer Abdullah bin Abdulrahman bin Saeed. The participating delegation includes the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, which supervises the participation of the delegation, the municipalities of the Riyadh, Eastern Province and Al-Baha regions, the Ministry of Culture represented by the Architecture and Design Arts Commission, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, the Saudi Fund for Development, and the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen.

The delegation’s activities include participation in 9 dialogue sessions presented by His Excellency the Secretary of the Eastern Province, Dr. Ali Al-Sawat, Secretary of the Baha Region, Dr. Adel Al-Zahrani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing for Urban Planning, Dr. Sumaya Al-Sulaiman, CEO of the Architecture and Design Arts Authority, and Engineer Hassan Al-Attas, Assistant General Supervisor of the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen.

The participation aims to highlight the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting international programs and initiatives that are concerned with the environment and sustainable urban cities. It also aims to highlight the role of the Quality of Life Program – one of the Vision 2030 programs – in responding to the aspirations of residents of Saudi cities in the field of improving cities, achieving urban sustainability, and preserving the cultural and architectural identity in the development of cities. The Saudi participation in the forum also contributes to reviewing the state’s efforts to raise the level of quality of life for citizens and residents through launching initiatives and programs that contribute to improving the urban landscape and humanizing cities, and to learning about the best global practices and experiences in city development.

It is worth noting that the United Nations Human Settlements Programme ( UN-Habitat ) launched the first World Urban Forum in 2001 to promote sustainable development and economic growth in various cities around the world, seeking to provide solutions to address many of the current challenges facing cities. It is the largest gathering in the world that discusses urban issues, the impact of rapid urbanization and its implications for social, economic and environmental policies in communities and cities, and is considered the global platform for promoting global partnerships in urban projects.
