Sustainability assessment achieves 254% growth in project areas during the first half of 2024

The Sustainable Building Program recorded a 254% growth in the areas of projects benefiting from the "Sustainability Assessment" during the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

The Sustainable Building Program stated in a press release that the areas of projects benefiting from the "Sustainability Assessment" during the first half of this year exceeded 11 million square meters in four major projects, where two of them obtained the Sustainability Assessment certificate, while two other projects obtained the Design Compliance Certificate; in preparation for obtaining the Sustainability Assessment certificate after the construction and completion of the project.

The "Sustainability Assessment" system comes as the first Saudi evaluation system developed according to the best global practices in line with the Saudi Building Code, and the system also enables the property owner and real estate developer to measure the sustainability of new and existing buildings and communities, by following environmental standards to improve energy and water efficiency, enhance quality of life through the provision of parks and basic facilities, and provide safe paths for bicycles and pedestrians.

It is worth mentioning that the Sustainability Assessment system is concerned with evaluating the sustainability of projects in all stages of development, and based on the number of points of the sustainability criteria that have been met, residential, commercial and community buildings are evaluated for the design and construction or operation and maintenance phases, and projects are classified into five levels, starting from the green level and reaching the diamond level.
