Sustainable Building Program recorded growth in the number of projects benefiting from the “Sustainability Assessment” service during the first quarter of 2025, compared to the same period last year. The total number of projects reached 28, with a total area of nearly 7 million square meters, marking a 64% increase compared to 2024.

Sustainable Building Program stated that 18 projects received the Design Compliance Certificate in the first quarter of 2025, reflecting a 140% growth compared to Q1 of 2024. These projects were distributed across Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and Jeddah.

“Sustainability Assessment” is the first Saudi-developed rating system, created in line with international best practices and aligned with the Saudi Building Code. It enables property owners and real estate developers to measure the sustainability of new and existing buildings and communities by applying environmental standards aimed at improving energy and water efficiency, enhancing quality of life through the provision of green spaces and essential facilities, and ensuring safe pathways for cyclists and pedestrians.

The program issued more than 70,000 reports for ready-building inspections and the quality track since its launch through the end of Q1 2025. It also announced the development of the Ready-Building Inspection service, which enables developers to request inspections for residential complexes including villas and apartment buildings, with the ability to define the number of units per building and customize names and areas for each unit individually.

The Sustainability Assessment system—which has received international fellowship from the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) and is listed among the globally recognized sustainability systems by the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB)—evaluates project sustainability across all stages of development based on the number of sustainability criteria met, as the system assesses residential and commercial buildings and communities during the design, construction, operation, and maintenance phases.

Additionally, the Ready-Building Inspection service allows for combined payment of fees for all units in a single invoice through the financial system, saving time and effort and helping developers manage their projects more efficiently. It is worth noting that the Sustainable Building Program provides services to individuals and entities to enhance the quality and sustainability of real estate, aiming to improve the quality of units in the market, develop the real estate sector, provide more sustainable housing options, raise awareness among individuals and developers about the importance of these services to ensure quality, and reduce financial and economic losses while enhancing safety and quality of life in residential properties.
