The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing today launched the first phase of the Urban Road Survey and Assessment Project in the Asir Region, as part of its comprehensive plan to improve the quality of roads across all regions of the Kingdom. The project will follow an approved timeline over the next three years, in line with Vision 2030’s objective of positioning the Kingdom among the top six countries globally in road quality.

The Ministry stated that the project’s kickoff in Asir marks the starting point of a phased implementation that will extend to other regions of the Kingdom. It confirmed that this initiative is part of an integrated strategy aimed at improving the efficiency of road operations and maintenance while enhancing the quality of life in Saudi cities.

The Ministry highlighted the use of the latest technologies and advanced equipment in the assessment processes. These include smart survey vehicles equipped with artificial intelligence technologies, pavement structural evaluation devices, thickness and skid resistance measurement tools, digital panoramic imaging technologies, and specialized automated survey equipment for pavement condition assessments. The project is supervised by local and international experts and specialists to ensure the highest levels of accuracy in collecting and analyzing technical data.

His Excellency Abdullah Al-Jali, Mayor of the Asir Region, stated that this project reflects the ambition to improve infrastructure quality and elevate the Kingdom’s road quality rankings. He emphasized that citizen engagement and awareness of the project’s importance will play a vital role in supporting development efforts, noting that citizens are essential partners in implementing strategies and achieving road quality targets.

His Excellency added that the unified system established by the Ministry for managing pavement and road element maintenance relies on artificial intelligence, geospatial data analysis, and accurate field surveys, aiming to create a national database that supports efficient and effective maintenance decision-making.

It is worth noting that the Urban Road Survey and Assessment Project represents a major milestone in road asset management and embodies the Ministry’s commitment to implementing sustainable technological solutions. It contributes to enhancing the efficiency of fieldwork, unifying assessment standards, improving road safety, and ensuring optimal utilization of resources and budgets.
