The Sustainable Building Program revealed a threefold increase in requests for its Sustainability Assessment Service compared to the total received over the past five years. This surge follows the launch of the program’s digital platform, automation of service procedures and accessibility. Additionally, the program enhanced its ready-built property inspection service to enable real estate developers to submit inspection requests for villa and apartment complexes, specify the number of units per building, and individually update names and areas for each unit.

In a press statement today, the program reported that six projects were granted Sustainability Assessment Certificates in the first half of 2025—an increase of 200% compared to the same period in 2024. Moreover, the number of projects that received a Design Compliance Certificate rose by 93%, reaching a total of 29 projects.

A total of 38 new projects were registered for sustainability assessment services, including 4 communities covering over 8 million square meters. Residential and commercial building areas exceeded 700,000 square meters, while the platform issued over 6,000 reports, ranging from ready-built inspections to construction quality reports.

The program also announced a collaboration with the Real Estate General Authority (REGA), allowing university students registered with the Saudi Council of Engineers to enroll in training programs offered by the Saudi Real Estate Institute. This initiative aims to support students, enhance their professional readiness, and enable them to create a “Certified Engineer” profile through the Sustainable Building platform.

The Sustainability Assessment is the first Saudi-developed evaluation system built upon global best practices aligned with the Saudi Building Code. It allows property owners and developers to measure the sustainability of new and existing buildings and communities across design, construction, operation, and maintenance phases. The rating system spans five tiers, from Green to Diamond, based on criteria met.

It is noteworthy that the Sustainability Assessment standards were customized to suit Saudi Arabia’s climate and environmental conditions, focusing on core areas such as energy, water, health, and quality of life—aligning with the goals of Vision 2030.
