The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has announced the approval of new updates to the Warehouses and Storage Facility Requirements. This initiative comes as part of the Ministry’s efforts to enhance the quality of municipal services, streamline business operations, and stimulate investment in the storage, transport, and logistics sector, thereby fostering a regulated environment conducive to supporting the national economy.

According to the Ministry, the updated requirements apply to warehouses, storage facilities, and storage units. The new classification includes warehouses of medium and low risk, as well as general warehouses, refrigerated warehouses, humidity-controlled warehouses, covered and uncovered warehouses, in addition to attached and detached storage facilities and units. This classification aligns with developments in the sector, promotes regulatory compliance, and helps mitigate visual distortion in urban environments.

The updated requirements encompass a set of spatial, technical, and operational criteria, including site and area specifications, public safety standards, licensing requirements, as well as architectural, mechanical, and electrical considerations — ensuring integration across work cycles and enhancing overall performance efficiency.

The Ministry noted that investors and relevant entities are granted a 180-day grace period starting from the date of publication of the updates on the Ministry’s official website to rectify their status. All stakeholders are encouraged to review the new requirements and take the necessary steps to comply within the specified timeframe.

The Ministry emphasized that these updates contribute to improving the business environment and boosting the efficiency of logistical services, in line with the goals of Vision 2030 to empower the private sector and enhance the attractiveness of cities and municipalities.
