The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing announced the completion of its operational and field plans for this year’s rainy season, through an integrated system implemented by the secretariats and municipalities in various regions of the Kingdom, with the aim of enhancing public safety, ensuring the smooth flow of municipal services, reducing damage caused by rainy conditions, raising community awareness and enhancing communication with residents.

The ministry explained that the municipalities activated operations and emergency rooms around the clock, in direct coordination with the National Reporting Center and relevant authorities, to follow up on incoming reports and deal with them urgently, in addition to preparing field teams, vehicles and equipment to address water collection sites and flood channels, and to carry out the necessary preventive maintenance work for drainage networks, culverts and bridges.

She explained that the preparations included implementing quality projects to address critical points, establishing and expanding new drainage networks and channels, and raising the efficiency of existing stations whose capacity in some areas exceeded 18,000 liters/second, which contributed to reducing the number of critical sites from more than 600 sites in 2022 to less than 300 sites in 2025, in a step that reflects the development of sustainable solutions and the effectiveness of the implemented projects.

The ministry affirmed that the municipalities were keen to enhance their human and mechanical readiness by deploying tens of thousands of field and technical personnel, and operating thousands of diverse equipment distributed across vital sites according to flexible plans for rapid intervention, as well as implementing hypotheses and simulation exercises for rain and flood scenarios, to raise the level of response and train teams to deal with emergency situations.

She also noted that the plans enhanced digital integration through the use of advanced national platforms to monitor rainfall and reports in real time, such as platforms "Atmosphere" and "Emerge" and "Flow Map" This ensures faster decision-making and improved response efficiency.

She added that the municipalities did not limit themselves to dealing with the effects of rain and floods, but their efforts included the health and environmental aspects associated with them, through preventive programs to combat water accumulations and disease-carrying insects, and to ensure the sustainability of a safe urban environment, stressing that these efforts come within an integrated framework with the General Directorate of Civil Defense, the General Directorate of Traffic, service companies, and security and health authorities, in order to ensure the continuity of municipal services in various weather conditions.

The ministry urged citizens and residents to cooperate by immediately reporting water accumulations and observations through the unified number. (940) and platform "My country " " She emphasized that these efforts come within the framework of enhancing community preparedness and raising awareness of public safety.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing continues its role in developing infrastructure to address climate change, having implemented more than 454,000 linear meters of rainwater drainage networks during 2024, compared to 291,000 meters in 2023, with a growth rate of 5.8%, bringing the total implemented by the Ministry since the launch of its projects to more than 8 million linear meters.
