The Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Reconstruction announced the appointment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as the chair of the Executive Office for the next session, in recognition of its pioneering role in developing the housing sector, promoting joint Arab action, and adopting policies and practices that contribute to improving housing systems in Arab countries.

This came during the proceedings of the forty-second session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Reconstruction, which was held in the Qatari capital, Doha, where His Excellency the Minister of Municipalities and Housing, Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Hogail, reviewed the achievements of the housing sector in the Kingdom, and its experience in building an integrated housing system that supports quality of life and residential stability.

In his opening remarks, His Excellency stressed that the housing sector is receiving growing attention from the leaders of Arab countries, as it represents a key axis in enhancing the quality of life of the Arab citizen and supporting social and economic stability, pointing to the importance of unifying efforts and exchanging experiences to confront common challenges in the housing sector.

His Excellency the Minister expressed his gratitude to the State of Qatar for hosting the session, praising the meeting of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Reconstruction as an effective platform for discussing developments in the sector, anticipating its future trends, and exchanging successful experiences that contribute to the development of housing policies and plans in Arab countries.

His Excellency explained that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has worked during the past years to develop an integrated system of housing programs and initiatives, which focused on diversifying housing options, enabling citizens to own property through sustainable solutions, enhancing partnership with the private sector, and raising the efficiency of the real estate financing system, in order to achieve balance and sustainability in the real estate market.

His Excellency the Minister explained that these efforts contributed to raising the rate of home ownership to 65.4% by the end of 2024, exceeding the target for 2025, within the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 aimed at improving the quality of life and building integrated residential communities.

He pointed out that the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister - may God protect him - formed a major pillar in consolidating and sustaining real estate balance, enhancing the ability of the housing sector to meet the needs of citizens, in addition to expanding the developmental housing system and supporting the most needy groups.

In concluding his speech, His Excellency commended the efforts made by the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria during its presidency of the previous session of the Council, expressing his hope that the work of the current session would contribute to achieving qualitative results that would enhance the paths of sustainable housing development in the Arab countries.
