The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has approved new regulatory requirements for vehicle repair workshops, as part of its efforts to enhance the quality of services provided to beneficiaries, raise health and safety standards, and address the manifestations of visual pollution in cities.

The requirements require investors to obtain a municipal license through the “Baladi” platform, and to submit a valid commercial registration that includes the activity, with the requirement of approval from the competent authorities before commencing operation, and classifying workshops according to main activities that include: mechanical, electrical and electronic repairs, bodywork and painting, tire and oil services, and battery testing.

The requirements also included technical and architectural requirements, most notably: providing approved sites and spaces within industrial areas or commercial streets, adhering to urban facades that comply with the urban code, preparing dedicated entrances and parking spaces, applying safety and fire prevention standards, in addition to equipping workshops with lighting systems, surveillance cameras, and internal panels to display licenses.

The ministry allowed the practice of some additional approved activities according to specific controls, the most important of which are: that the area of the added activities does not exceed 50% of the total licensed area, and that the area of the additional activity is not less than 6 square meters, while maintaining the minimum area of the main activity, while homogeneous activities are allowed to be practiced within the area stated in the license.

The ministry stressed the commitment to operational controls, which include preventing the occupation of sidewalks or public facilities, maintaining public cleanliness, managing waste and oils in safe ways, providing electronic payment methods, and services adapted for people with disabilities, in addition to workers obtaining the necessary professional certificates to practice the activity.

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing confirmed that these requirements aim to raise the efficiency of transportation repair workshops, achieve safety and quality standards, and are subject to field monitoring by the competent municipal authorities, in order to ensure compliance and improve the urban environment; in support of the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in developing cities and improving quality of life. .
