MOMRAH completes the planting of more than 300,000 trees in 7 residential projects within the “Green Suburbs” Initiative

The Ministry of Municipal Rural Affairs and Housing (MOMRAH) has completed the planting of over 300,000 local trees and shrubs in several residential projects in the regions of Riyadh, Madinah, Makkah, and the Eastern Province as part of the "Green Suburbs" Initiative. The Initiative aims to increase the individual's share of vegetation cover and enhance the attractiveness of ownership in new projects, as well as improve the quality of life in residential communities.

Through the "Green Suburbs" Initiative, MOMRAH aims to plant 1.3 million trees in 55 projects across various regions of the Kingdom, covering more than 55 million square meters of residential project areas. These projects include 100,000 housing units, schools, and other facilities, in addition to greening more than 2 million square meters of streets and pathways.

The tree planting operations included seven residential projects: Murcia and West Airport projects in Riyadh, Dar Al-Jewar in Madinah, Luluat Al-Diyar in Yanbu, as well as Bouvardia City project in Jeddah, and the King Abdullah Housing and Diyar Al-Ahsa projects in Al-Ahsa Governorate.

Through this initiative, MOMRAH aims to improve the quality of life for citizens by providing sustainable residential environments based on the principles of sustainable urban design in the planning of new cities. It also aims to achieve the highest environmental sustainability standards in green suburbs through the use of green construction techniques and the efficient use of natural resources.

It is worth mentioning that the "Green Suburbs" Initiative was launched by the Ministry of Municipal Rural Affairs and Housing in October 2023. It is being implemented in three phases, with the final phase scheduled to be completed in 2025. The initiative contributes to reducing carbon emissions that cause pollution in residential areas, in line with the goals of Vision 2030 to improve the quality of life in cities and provinces throughout the Kingdom.
