Launch of the Gulf Building Code and a review of outstanding projects in the field of municipalities

The Ministry of Municipality and Housing is hosting the 25th meeting of Their Excellencies the Ministers concerned with municipal affairs in the GCC countries.

 

The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing hosted the 25th meeting of Their Excellencies the Ministers concerned with municipal affairs in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries today, chaired by His Excellency the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Hogail, at the Fairmont Hotel in Riyadh.

The meeting, which was attended by ministers and municipal undersecretaries from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, aimed to discuss the joint Gulf municipal work strategy, future directions for urban planning, unification of procedures, development of legislation and municipal control mechanisms, in addition to launching the Gulf building code and reviewing a number of distinguished projects in the field of municipal work.

At the beginning of the meeting, His Excellency the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Hogail, welcomed the attendees, stressing that the meeting comes within the framework of integrating efforts between the GCC countries to draw up strategic recommendations in the field of municipal work, and to move it towards broader horizons by discussing joint contributions, overcoming obstacles and facing challenges that may hinder the paths of municipal work.

His Excellency pointed out that the launch of the Gulf Building Code is one of the fruits of the joint Gulf action system’s efforts for the municipal sector to open the region’s markets to Gulf construction companies and consulting offices, and to give great added value to the municipal sector’s contribution to the economy, and to create new job opportunities, in addition to the importance of the building code to raise the quality of construction and ensure the safety of facilities and their occupants.

Al-Haqil stressed the continuation of work with brothers in the Gulf municipal sector to unify efforts, develop municipal oversight legislation and mechanisms, exchange experiences and successful practices, and strive to achieve what the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries – may God protect them – aspire to in terms of hopes and ambitions towards providing distinguished municipal services that meet the aspirations and ambitions of the residents of Gulf cities.

During the meeting, leaders of the municipal sector in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries discussed the implementation of initiatives related to the joint Gulf municipal action strategy during 2021, and the completion of its initiatives. The agenda and draft resolutions were also discussed by the General Secretariat, in addition to a visual presentation of one of the distinguished projects in the field of municipalities.
