The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has adopted new municipal requirements to regulate mobile food truck activities, with the aim of enhancing compliance with regulations, providing a safe operating environment, and raising the efficiency of health and food practices, which contributes to improving the quality of services and supporting investment opportunities for entrepreneurs.

The ministry explained that the requirements stipulated the designation of specific locations for mobile carts to park, within sites belonging to municipalities, government agencies, private establishments, investment sites, or municipal incubators, while adhering to safe distances of no less than 10 meters from fuel stations, and prohibiting parking within residential neighborhoods or near emergency exits or sources of environmental pollution.

She added that the technical requirements for mobile vehicles mandated the provision of basic equipment that is slip-resistant and easy to clean, in addition to ventilation and air conditioning systems that prevent the condensation of vapors and maintain a temperature not exceeding 25 degrees Celsius inside the vehicle, in addition to applying the requirements for thermal insulation, appropriate lighting, and safety measures.

The ministry explained that the operational requirements for mobile carts require obtaining the necessary licenses and site permits from the relevant authorities, and prohibit the use of loudspeakers or smoking inside the cart, while adhering to the specified working hours and not practicing the activity outside the scope of the cart, in addition to providing a first aid box and applying strict hygiene standards.

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing confirmed that food trucks are subject to strict food safety requirements, including the use of potable water, the provision of equipment for preparing and washing vegetables and fruits, the prohibition of preparing sauces inside the truck, and compliance with refrigeration, heating and defrosting requirements according to the instructions of the Food and Drug Authority.

She noted the importance of clearly displaying basic consumer information, including product names, ingredient details, allergens, temperatures, and expiry dates, in addition to placing a sign indicating the type and source of meat used, providing a permanent electronic payment service, and highlighting the unified electronic code on the cart.

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing concluded by emphasizing its continued efforts to develop and update municipal requirements for various activities, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, and to contribute to enhancing public health and raising the quality of life in cities and communities.
