The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing issued municipal requirements for private educational buildings, which aim to raise the quality of the educational environment and regulate safety and urban planning standards in private educational facilities, including nurseries, kindergartens, schools and educational complexes.

The ministry explained that the requirements apply to private educational buildings erected on lands designated as private or governmental educational facilities invested by the private sector, as well as to buildings erected on lands designated for commercial use, in accordance with specific controls and standards that ensure optimal use of land and achieve a safe and integrated educational environment.

She explained that private educational buildings include all facilities dedicated to teaching students in general education, foreign education, and community education, and are allowed to be managed or invested in by the private or non-profit sectors, after obtaining a license from the Ministry of Education to provide educational services, with the possibility of including more than one educational stage according to the approved classification.

She added that the requirements included site requirements and planning and architectural standards, which require that the educational building be located on two streets, one of which must be at least (25) meters wide, and that the number of floors not exceed the number specified in the approved building code, while adhering to the standard setbacks, while the nursery is allowed to be on one street, at least (15) meters wide, if it is in an independent building. The requirements also allow the establishment of internal residential buildings for students within licensed educational facilities, provided that they are in a building separate from the educational building.

The ministry stressed the importance of adhering to the minimum land area allocated per student according to the geographical division of the regions, as the area should not be less than (4) square meters per student in the kindergarten stage, and it gradually increases until it reaches (5) square meters in educational complexes, in order to ensure the provision of a suitable educational environment that can accommodate the expected student density.

These requirements come within the framework of raising the efficiency of private educational institutions, and unifying technical and regulatory standards, which contributes to enhancing the quality of education, improving the urban landscape, and facilitating those wishing to invest in the establishment of private educational buildings, in order to support the growth of the private education sector.
