The Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB)—a world-leading organization for benchmarking developers in the fields of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) for financial markets—has officially recognized the operation and existing systems of residential and commercial projects within the Sustainable Building Program, adding it to the list of globally approved systems.

The Sustainable Building Program explained that this recognition affirms its commitment to applying best sustainability practices in the real estate sector and to contributing toward the achievement of sustainable development goals. It added that GRESB’s recognition enhances the Program’s position as a trusted partner in the real estate sector and supports the delivery of added value to investors and real estate beneficiaries. The inclusion of operational and existing systems for commercial and residential projects is in addition to the previously approved design and construction systems.

GRESB recognition is considered a global standard for evaluating the sustainability of real estate and infrastructure projects. It serves as a key benchmark relied upon by more than 150 investment and financial institutions to make informed and sustainable decisions. The Sustainable Building Program continues to pursue excellence in implementing sustainability strategies and contributing to building a more sustainable future.

In 2024, the Program recorded growth in projects benefiting from the Sustainability Assessment service compared to 2023, reaching 75 projects with a total area of nearly 47 million square meters, marking a 32% increase over the previous year. Additionally, 11 projects received the Design Compliance Certificate, showing a 19% increase. The projects were distributed across Riyadh, Madinah, Jeddah, Khobar, Dhahran, and Taif.

The Program issued over 23,000 quality inspection reports during the past year. This service enables prospective buyers or tenants to verify the quality and safety of buildings or construction processes through an inspection mechanism carried out by certified inspectors, covering both ready buildings and those under construction.

It is worth noting that Sustainable Building Program aims to achieve sustainability standards in residential and commercial buildings and neighborhood communities, improve energy and water efficiency, and enhance quality of life. This is accomplished through mechanisms and solutions that raise construction quality, improve energy and water efficiency, reduce operational and maintenance costs for real estate units, minimize environmental pollution, lower carbon emissions, and elevate the overall quality and efficiency of residential and commercial buildings and communities.
