A Saudi delegation from several government agencies is participating in the activities of the eleventh World Urban Forum ( WUF11 ), which is organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme “ UN-Habitat ” in Katowice, Republic of Poland, during the period from June 26-30, under the slogan “Transforming our cities for a better urban future”. The delegation of participating agencies is headed by His Excellency the Secretary of the Eastern Province, Engineer Fahd bin Mohammed Al-Jubair, on behalf of His Excellency the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Hogail.

The participation aims to highlight the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting international programs and initiatives that are concerned with the environment and sustainable urban cities. It also aims to highlight the role of the Quality of Life Program – one of the Vision 2030 programs – in responding to the aspirations of residents of Saudi cities in the field of improving cities, achieving urban sustainability, and preserving the cultural and architectural identity in the development of cities. The Saudi participation in the forum also contributes to reviewing the state’s efforts to raise the standard of living for citizens and residents through launching initiatives and programs that contribute to improving the urban landscape and humanizing cities, and to learning about the best global practices and experiences in city development.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is represented at the forum by several government agencies, each of which will showcase its most prominent urban programs and initiatives through the pavilion dedicated to Saudi agencies in the exhibition accompanying the forum. The Saudi delegation will be represented by the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, the municipalities of the Riyadh, Eastern and Al-Baha regions, the Ministry of Culture represented by the Architecture and Design Arts Commission, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, the Saudi Fund for Development, and the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen.

It is worth mentioning that the United Nations Human Settlements Programme ( UN-Habitat ) launched the first World Urban Forum in 2001 to promote sustainable development and economic growth in various cities around the world, seeking to provide viable solutions to address the many current challenges facing cities at all demographic, environmental, economic and social levels. It is the largest gathering in the world that discusses urban issues, the impact of rapid urbanization and its implications for social, economic and environmental policies in communities and cities, and is considered the global platform for promoting partnerships for the implementation of the New Urban Agenda .
