The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing and the General Directorate of Traffic called on owners of neglected or damaged vehicles within residential neighborhoods in the cities and governorates of the Kingdom to take the initiative to remove them and drop them from their records with the General Directorate of Traffic, by taking advantage of the corrective grace period that began on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, with the aim of improving the urban landscape and raising the quality of life within cities environmentally and in terms of security, in order to achieve the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 programs.

The Ministry of Municipality and Housing and the Traffic Department explained in a joint press statement that owners of neglected or damaged vehicles can take advantage of the corrective period by taking the initiative to remove them from their records. The corrective period will last for a full year, and during this period they will be exempt from the fees and fines related to those vehicles if they transfer ownership of their damaged or neglected vehicle to scrap metal dealerships or approved iron presses.

The statement indicated that removing neglected or damaged vehicles within cities through the initiative and interaction of their owners will address the visual distortion caused by damaged or neglected vehicles within residential neighborhoods, improve the urban landscape within cities, enhance the quality of life and environment for its residents, citizens, and visitors, and enable Saudi cities to achieve advanced rankings in the global livability index, in accordance with the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

The statement called on owners of neglected or damaged vehicles to remove them from their records with official authorities or to transfer ownership of the damaged or neglected vehicle to scrap yards or approved iron presses in order to improve services within cities. Citizens can also report the locations of violating vehicles through the “Take a Picture and Send” service via the “Baladi” application.
