The Ministry of Municipal Rural Affairs and Housing has announced that, according to Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), and in continuation of the measures taken by government entities regarding the recent cases of poisoning at "Hamburgini" Restaurant in Riyadh, one of the laboratory test results conducted by SFDA revealed the presence of "Clostridium Botulinum" bacteria, which causes botulism, in a sample of mayonnaise from BON TUM mayonnaise in the products of the mentioned restaurant. With the confirmation of the presence of that substance in one of the factories as well, MOMRAH, in collaboration with SFDA and relevant entities, each according to their respective responsibilities, has taken additional measures to what has been previously done, including the following:
- Halting the distribution of the mentioned product "the mayonnaise" and withdrawing it from the markets and food establishments in all cities of the Kingdom, and suspending the factory in preparation for implementing the legal procedures.
- Withdrawing the remaining quantities of the product in the factory in all productions and expiration dates.
- Notifying all customers of the factory, including restaurants and food establishments, to dispose of all their quantities.
- Continuing monitoring, investigation, and inspection campaigns at the level of all cities in the Kingdom by municipalities and relevant authorities to ensure the safety of food products provided to consumers.
MOMRAH and the relevant authorities emphasize the importance of obtaining information from official sources and not following rumors and false news.
