The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing adopts requirements for transport service centers to improve efficiency and regulate the sector.

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has adopted municipal requirements for transport service centers, as part of its efforts to develop the business environment, improve the quality of services provided in the sector, and promote investment in activities related to transport and logistics, which contributes to improving the urban landscape and raising the level of organization and compliance.

The ministry explained that the requirements included a comprehensive classification of transport service centers, including freight transport centers, bus transport, shelters for trucks, buses and taxis, vehicles attached to commercial activities, light transport centers, in addition to centers for assessing damage to vehicles of all types.

She explained that the requirements included precise spatial requirements that set the minimum area for bus shelters at 600 square meters, truck shelters or rentals at 900 square meters, and taxi or light transport shelters at 1000 square meters, while the area of vehicle damage assessment centers ranged between 600 square meters for the second category and 1500 square meters for the first category.

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing stressed the need to provide sufficient parking spaces for vehicles, allocate safe entrances and exits, and submit a comprehensive traffic study of the site and surrounding roads, while adhering to setbacks, heights and afforestation regulations in accordance with approved building regulations.

The ministry indicated that the technical and architectural requirements stipulated the provision of urban facades that comply with the urban code, the use of materials that conform to standard specifications in floors and ceilings, and equipping the centers with modern lighting systems and surveillance cameras, in addition to providing rest areas for drivers, toilets and prayer rooms, and warehouses prepared for storing equipment.

The operational requirements also included adherence to electronic payment methods, maintaining cleanliness and waste management, and installing fire protection systems in accordance with the Saudi Building Code. (SBC-801) It also prohibits the occupation of sidewalks and public facilities, in addition to adhering to the regulations for practicing additional and homogeneous activities that do not exceed 50% of the total licensed area.

The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing confirmed that the adoption of these requirements comes within its ongoing efforts to raise the efficiency of transport service centers, regulate the work environment in them, and enhance the level of compliance and commitment, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in improving the quality of life, developing cities, and raising the efficiency of the infrastructure supporting the transport and logistics sector.
